I finally got around to watching Fury Road the other day. I have to say, I was a little....underwhelmed. The vehicles were really cool and the visuals were great, but the story was pretty boring in my opinion. It’s not a terrible movie, but I’m glad I didn’t pay theater money to see it.

If anything, theater money is what makes it worth it. You have the guitar dude shredding IN YO FACE

I can understand where you’re coming from, but I was absolutely and completely impressed by the sound design of the movie, and need to see it on bluray or something again.

I thought it was one of the better movies in terms of sound design lately. A lot of little things that really came together and made the whole movie more impressive. But that’s just more technical stuff rather than storyline.

it was VASTLY improved by being seen in the theatre. but I can see what you’re saying, it and the other Mad Max movies have fairly basic plots, that can be summarised very briefly.

It was worth watching once to see it, but it’s not one I’d watch again.

What I loved about Fury Road was that it had the sheer genetalia to just be a fairly high paced, action driven movie. The plot was simple and had a few holes. I didn’t care. Because monster truck double cadillac. It played out very well (DOOF WAGON FTW!!!!!) and was a great movie on spectacle alone. Throw in some good character moments (Max and his car was a great running theme) and while I don’t think it is the apex of acting or storytelling, the directing is god-tier and the movie works very well as a movie. 9/10 will watch again and again on home theater setup.

There is little to no dialogue in the movie yet it is a VERY easy storyline to follow. Think about that. A fantastic piece IMHO. Set design, costumes, makeup, sound... all fantastic.

Visually GREAT movie... Other than that, nothing special really... I didn’t expect anymore than that though. It’s a typical apocalyptic road movie... When you think of it, the original Mad Max kind of sucks too story wise :)

I loved it, but for the same reasons I still have a collection of Star Wars figures on my mantle. My inner 9 year old sometimes gets to take control and use the credit card.

This is basically that time in the sandbox where you crash all your crazy matchbox cars together and have a good time. It is straight forward nonsense with how the cars are designed, the costumes and the flamethrowing guitar (BADASS!). So I enjoyed the hell outta it.

I am not sure what folks were expecting in terms of dialog as all the Mad Max movies were Mel just brooding in a corner or grumbling. It was perfect.

On top of this, at Dragoncon last year all the folks dressed as Warboys accidently walked into an Immortan Joe speech. A Joe was in the loft in the Marriott drinking a beer with a bunch of Warboys below also drinking. Another Warboy saw his chance and introduced Joe to the audience. Joe, without missing a beat, out down his drink and did the first whole speech impromptu. There was much yelling/rejoycing. I was a witness.

The cars were cool, the sound was cool, the story was...well jumping around in the desert on cool cars, that was the whole movie.

And personally, I’m a little pissed his car was off-ed so quick.

I don’t think that Fury Road amazes most people for its story (I mean, it’s your standard post-apocalyptic story), the amazing stuff are the visuals, the raw beauty of a mostly CGI-free movie, and of course, the ambiance and soundtrack. :)

The straight forward plot line is in part why it was such a good movie. You don’t need a bunch of unfollowable plot twists to construct a comprehensive theme. The film keeps your entertained with the action and satisfied with a complete story line. Unlike another vehicle based action franchise which will remain nameless

Nearly nonstop action and tension is now boring. We have reached peak excitement. Pack it up, everyone. Stories are over.

Nonstop driving and very little tension is what I got out of it. Maybe I just approached it with the wrong expectations. I’ve only seen bits and pieces of previous MM movies so I guess I heard all the hype and expected something that wasn’t meant to be there.

This. Watching it in theaters was an experience. I honestly left the theater with a headache from the sensory overload and only afterward, once it sunk in, I appreciated how good the insanity of it was. Watching it on a 40" TV at home, with no surround sound, wouldn’t have had the same effect.

I don’t know, I just never got into the whole Mad Max thing in the first place. I mean, the first one was OK, but, after that, it just got too weird for me.
